For a decade, the London Fintech Podcast has been providing an overview of the dominant influences and initiatives across FS. Mike Baliman, who launched the podcast in 2014, created a remarkable catalogue of over 250 high-quality episodes, which you can watch here.
The LFP, which was launched in July 2014, is the longest running and most blue-chip Fintech podcast in Europe, with gravitas and respect in both Fintech and incumbent Financial Services. Guests include Lord Turner the former head of the FSA, Sir Paul Tucker former Deputy Governor Bank of England, the Lord Mayor of London, the leading economist Professor John Kay as well as blue-chip FS incumbents and Fintechs around the globe.
The mission of the show is to educate and entertain, and it has had 800,000 downloads in 202 countries since its launch. More importantly, the aim has never been to produce content that targets audience size at all, rather to produce blue-chip reference material on the many topics within Fintech.

In this episode of the London Fintech podcast, Tony Clark talks to Niall Cameron. They explore Niall’s journey from heading trading teams to leading digital transformation at HSBC and now building a unique Fintech community through FinTech Connex.
There are by some estimates over 26, 000 FinTechs globally. However, as this audience will know, the sector has been on a rollercoaster ride since 2020. Post COVID FinTech funding dropped dramatically in 23 and in investment terms, the first half of last year was down 57 percent year on year versus 2022. Q1 24 this year was the worst performing fintech quarter since the start of 2020.
However, it’s not all gloom and doom. There is optimism across the sector from both the investment community and the fintechs themselves, particularly for those firms who have a clear niche product, a rapid growth rate and effective partnerships. A lot of this is down to product focus and leveraging the fintech ecosystem, something that Niall is an expert in.
Niall shares his insights on achieving product-market fit, staying ahead of trends, and the importance of narrowing focus for deep expertise. Additionally, he provides practical advice for fintech entrepreneurs on making their products more buyable and actionable in a swiftly evolving industry landscape.
Niall, not just had a stellar career in trading, rising to the top of his business with several thousand traders reporting to him at one point, but he also made a successful move to digital leadership at one of the world’s largest banks and more recently. built a unique fintech community and network business across the sector.

The LFP has a leaning towards the business end of the Fintech spectrum – FinFintech, if you like, rather than technology per se. Its episodes can be seen to fill a pyramidal shape that is at the base a triangle of Entrepreneurialism, Financial Services and Technology.
At the vertex of the pyramid is “Finance and Society”. Whilst Financial Services is a societal construct whose form has varied over space and time – by laws, by regulations, by political design, by the very nature of the definition of money – equally it is a huge influence on the society in which it resides.
As sectors go, Fintech has been by far one of the hottest over the past decade which has had tons of money poured into it and therefore seen evolution on steroids and given us in a decade of insights into what, in more leisurely times, it might have taken fifty years to learn about (such as the nature of entrepreneurialism, what works and what doesn’t)
As the LFP enters it’s second decade, the show now has a new host in long time listener and LFP guest Tony Clark, who is also founder and CEO of NextWave Consulting, a next generation consulting firm in the fintech space.
Tony will continue to foster engaging discussions with industry leaders bringing innovation to the ever-evolving Fintech and FS landscape. As he lives and works at the coalface of the implementation of all these new fascinating technologies, he will be "able to return the LFP to its origins".
We are looking forward to presenting the most interesting guests in the FinTech space. Join us biweekly for episodes packed with actionable insights, expert analysis, and a fresh perspective dedicated to sharing stories of innovation and success from the world of finance and technology. Share and enjoy!
Tony is the new host of the LFP (starting in 2024), and is carrying on the legacy of the podcast as the "gold standard" in fintech.
Tony is also the founder and CEO of NextWave Consulting and has 30 years of big-firm consultancy, startup, and enterprise experience across business, digital and technology, working with some of the world’s leading banks and financial institutions.
Tony has worked at Accenture, m.a.partners, and was a founding team member at Crossbridge. More recently, as Synechron MD and Head of the UK business, Tony ran the UK Consulting, Digital and Technology practices.
Mike is a paid chair, host, moderator, and speaker at public and private online and offline events. He was the founder and host of the LFP until 2024, when he decided to take a well deserved break and pass the torch to Tony.
He has 40 years of experience in FS, tech and entrepreneurialism in senior roles (Global Head Fixed Income, Global Head of Risk, Board-level Consultant), as well as having founded a Fintech in 1998.
Mike’s other work falls into three categories: Non-Executive Director, Advisory Director, Founder-Mentor, Consultancy and Media.
Mike is the author of “The Realpolitik Of The Unlisted Company Board: Making Your Board An Engine Of Growth”.
